4 Ways You Can Better Promote Your Posts on Twitter

Go ahead — Make Sh*t Happen!

mshI’m so excited to announce that one of my favorite courses, Make Sh*t Happen by my dear friend Jenny Blake (mentioned in one of my recent blog posts) is re-opening TODAY!

This is not just another ebook or course that will sit unattended in your inbox. I know Jenny is super committed to helping people make SIGNIFICANT, real, meaningful progress on their biggest, scariest goals and ideas. No fluff, no stalling, no “let’s continue to think about this idea in circles” and waste time, and no more excuses! If you’ve got your mind set on something awesome this year, this is the perfect way to push through your barriers, find support and reach what Jenny refers to as a “snowball of success.”

In only three cohorts (I, personally,  a member of the second), MSH participants have had the following results:

  • Lora quit her job and joined the Peace Corps. She’s currently serving in Ethiopia!
  • Devin Termini lost 85 pounds and is now embarking on a cross-country tour featuring people for his new endeavor: Crossfit Changed My Life
  • Ben was featured in a London newspaper for his coffee-shop coaching practice
  •
Erin quit her full-time job and launched her lighting business Sugarbird Studio
  • Just to name a few…

So what are you waiting for? Don’t let 2013 pass you by — let’s Make Sh*t Happen!

Stop trying to get traffic

trafficquoteOne question I get on a regular basis from new bloggers is “How do I grow my traffic?” But while traffic is important (traffic converts to leads which converts to sales), it is not the end all, be all of your blog’s success, especially in the beginning.

In fact, when you are starting out, DON’T put the focus on gaining traffic.

Focus on building your authority. Focus on generating amazing content to demonstrate to your readers that you are a thought leader in your industry.

What makes content amazing? Great question. Amazing content…
… makes the reader think.
… makes the reader want to share.
… answers a question or solves a problem that the reader is facing.
… isn’t the exact same sh*t they’ve read everywhere else.

Stop looking for more traffic and, instead, focus on better serving your existing readers. Find out what they want and give it to them. Over deliver.

I’m not saying “if you build it, they will come.”

While that has worked for some people, the majority of us DO have to work for our traffic. Pretty damn hard, in fact.

However, if you start out by under promising and over delivering, I promise you, when the time comes to take your blog to the next level, it will be MUCH easier (and faster) for you to grow your audience.

Do you want to go to the restaurant that only has a few good things, or the place that everyone raves about everything on the menu?

Your blog is the same way.

The more amazing things you have on your menu, the more likely people are not only come, but to keep coming back. They’re likely to tell their friends about it. They’re likely to subscribe. They’re likely to buy.

Ask your current readers what they want.  Survey them.  Email them.  Schedule phone calls with them.  Once you’ve done that, start HELPING them reach their goals and ask for nothing in return (except, perhaps, for more feedback on how you can even BETTER serve them).

twitterqupteBefore I hit publish on any post, I try to draft anywhere from 5-10 tweets so that I am prepared to promote. It used to frustrate me beyond belief that you couldn’t tweet the same thing more than once.

WTF Twitter, don’t you know I’m busy?!

But after seeing results from playing around with the phrasing of my post, I love it. I love spending a few minutes getting creative with how I can draw people to the post. I love seeing what times of day work best, what verbiage encourages the most clicks, or what, frankly, really failed.

After years of tinkering with this, these are my top four ways to rephrase your post titles to better promote your posts on Twitter.
